PERSONALITY:

Poe Dameron is a cocky pilot handpicked by General Leia Organa herself to help in the fight against the First Order. Poe can be described as someone who is devoted, courageous, and charismatic; though he is also idealistic, headstrong, and reactive. From the moment he is introduced in The Force Awakens, we can see that he is someone with a sense of humor as he pokes fun at Kylo Ren himself in a moment where others may freeze from fear. We see that same humor again at the beginning of the second movie, as he turns it into a way of stalling the First Order so the Resistance can flee.

Poe’s devotion to the resistance can almost be described as his destiny. His parents Shara Bey and Kes Dameron were both members of the Rebel Alliance and fought against the evil Emperor Palpatine and his armies. In fact, he followed in his mother’s footsteps and joined the New Republic Defense Fleet, climbing his way up the ladder. It was his dedication to freedom and the safety of the galaxy that led him into the Resistance to begin with, after the New Republic would not do anything about the First Order’s wrongdoings. He follows Leia’s order to find her brother, Luke Skywalker, a mission in which his dedication is tested.

The pilot’s courage is tested when he is captured by Kylo Ren on Jakku and is later tortured in an attempt to gather information. The torment nearly breaks him and even though he is forced to give up the information eventually, he was able to withstand most of the physical torture. He is brave and it is really shown in the way that he chooses to fight, even when there is virtually no hope for the future--as seen in The Rise of Skywalker. He continues to believe in those around him, that there is always a spark of hope in the galaxy. Poe will fight to the end, until every possible solution is exhausted.

Poe is a natural leader with so much charisma it consistently attracts people to him. Finn saves him, he and Rey have a friendly relationship, and we are even able to see his old crew in the newest movie. In his youth, he rises amongst the ranks of New Republic pilots and is eventually given his own squad of pilots to lead--a theme which carries over into his time with the resistance. However, despite these charismatic qualities, Poe sometimes questions his abilities as a leader. Leia is one of his mentors and he looks up to her very much, clearly wanting to be a leader very similar to her. When she dies in The Rise of Skywalker, there is a moment where Poe sits by her bedside and says he is unsure of his abilities to lead the Resistance to victory. With the support of his friends behind him, though, and the hope in his heart, Poe takes the helm of the Resistance and leads them forward to save the galaxy.

Dameron’s idealistic nature often leads him into trouble. He often thinks that climbing into his x-wing and firing against the enemy is the best answer to everything. He gets a plan in his head and continues to work to that goal, even if things are not going the way that everything was planned. While this attitude gave the Resistance many victories over the First Order, it also led to several dangerous situations; such as losing a majority portion of the Resistance fleet while taking out a Dread Nought. After being demoted due to this reckless move, and General Holdo being promoted ahead of him, Poe attempted to stage a mutiny just so things would be done his way. In his mind, his way was the only way to ensure a Resistance victory. Fortunately, Poe comes to understand that while victory is important, there is always a cost in war. On Crait, he calls off an attack that would have been deadly to the remaining Resistance forces. Poe would rather lose the battle than lose his friends, a quality which is demonstrated when we see how devastated he is when losing fellow pilots/allies in The Rise of Skywalker.

Throughout everything, Poe Dameron never loses hope. He remains true to himself, but is always willing to grow and become even better than before. He’ll always be there for those he loves, defending them from anything that would hurt them. He will fight until his last breath because there will always be something good worth fighting for.


POWERS/ABILITIES:
Poe has no supernatural abilities.
Piloting: If you need a pilot, Poe Dameron is your guy. Dubbed the best pilot in the galaxy since Luke Skywalker, he’s been climbing into ships since childhood.
Marksmanship: Aim better than a stormtrooper’s, Poe is just as good with a blaster on foot as he is in his X-wing.
